Success Stories

We are exceptionally proud of the work created by our students. One of the benefits of participating in the Spirit of Innovation Challenge is how we work to provide ongoing opportunities for students to promote their projects following the Innovation Summit. Here is a small sampling of the triumphs and opportunities of our teams.

 

Program Success

During the last five years, the Spirit of Innovation program has: 

  • Engaged students in 42 States and 15+ Countries
  • Reached in excess of 17,000 students
  • Worked with more than 200 STEM Educators from year-to-year
  • Offered 1:1 mentor to student team collaboration
  • Supported the conceptualization of more than 350 new products and innovations; currently, more than 20 percent of conceptualized products and innovations are in development

  • Archived into the JFK Presidential Library
  • Obtained two patents for their product
  • Recognized by the Chairman of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission
  • Profiled on Popular Science Radio and interviewed by BBC World News

Madison

  • Business plan published in a Chinese University textbook

Mikayla and Shannon – Product: Nutrition Bar

  • Interviewed by Fox News, CNN, Elle Girl and MTV Geek
  • Nutrition bar flew aboard STS-134
  • Attended White House Science Fair
  • Serve as student spokeswomen for Texas Instruments
    Mikayla and Shannon continue to develop their nutrition bar for the commercial market 

Ankesh, Brent, Daniel, Leighanne and Sidhartha

  • Visited the New York Stock Exchange as part of the Kairos Society

Brent, Daniel, Hung-Jen, Meredith, Sam and Usnish – Product: ULTRApod water filter

  • Participated in the National Council for Science and the Environment in Washington D.C.
  • Attended 2012 USA Science & Engineering Festival as guests of Lockheed Martin
  • Began manufacture of their prototype
